2019 Choristers Guild Children’s Choir Festival

General Information:

Date: Saturday, March 9, 2019
Times: Mandatory Director's Meeting and Chapter Annual Meeting at 10:30 am.
Junior Choir (usually grades 3-6*)–Registration at 8:15 am. Seating starts at 8:30 am.
Half Day Primary Choir (usually grades K-2*)–Registration at 12:15 pm. Rehearsals start at 12:30 pm.
Optional Full Day Primary Choir (usually grades K-2*)–Activity Room available starting at 8:30 am. Rehearsals start at 12:30 pm.
Concert at 3:00 pm.
(* Seventh and eighth graders may be included as long as their voices have not yet changed. Also, some churches include 3rd graders in the primary group. Second graders may be included as juniors at the director's discretion.)

Clinician: Debbie Fahmie has recently retired from the School District of Osceola County after serving 20 years as an elementary music teacher and 10 years as the Arts Specialist for the county, She serves as Past President of Osceola Phi Delta Kappa, Osceola Arts for a Complete Education, Osceola Arts, Florida Elementary Music Educators Association (FEMEA) and Central Florida Orff Chapter. Debbie is currently serving on the following boards: FMEA, United Arts, The Education Foundation, Osceola Arts, and the Florida Alliance of Arts Education. She has worked with the Florida DOE as an evaluator for Florida Arts Model Schools. She served on the Performing Fine Arts State Assessment Task Force and as a Division of Cultural Affairs panelist. She is an adjunct professor for the University of Central Florida. She has been the Contemporary Choir Director at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Kissimmee, FL for the past 33 years. Debbie was a state finalist for the 2008 Florida Teacher of the Year. She was named 2008 FMEA Music Educator of the Year and was inducted into the Arts Alive Hall of Fame in 2015. In 2016, she was selected as the recipient of the Florida Music Education Association Leadership Award and in 2018 was awarded the Florida Alliance for Arts Education’s Administrator Award. photo of clinician

Sharon Hall Memorial Scholarship Fund:

Sharon Hall was a Children's Choir Director at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, a charter member of the Central Florida Chapter of Choristers Guild. After her death in 1996, the Central Florida Chapter of Choristers Guild established the Sharon Hall Scholarship Fund to honor Mrs. Hall's commitment to, enthusiam for and love of children and music. The scholarship fund will cover festival registration fees for choristers and/or directors in financial need. To request scholarship funds or for more information, please contact chapter president Bonnie Litteral (407-877-3525).

* Students choosing Drama or Dance will only choose one interest group since they will use both sessions to prepare for the concert.

Festival Information Updates:

If you plan to attend the festival please be sure Bonnie Litteral has your current e-mail address. Click here. to send this information. Also include a valid e-mail address on the Registration Form if you would like confirmation of your registration. You will receive schedules, name tags, and class assignments when you arrive at the festival.

Permission Form:

A permission form must be filled out for each chorister and turned into the festival registrar before name tags and schedules will be given out on the morning of the festival. This is to ensure safety of the children in case there is an emergency and the director cannot be immediately located. A form can be found by clicking on the Festival Forms Button on the side of this page. We also ask that each church have an emergency person at home (someone that can be called and who will contact the rest of the parents in case of an emergency).

Travel Directions to First United Methodist Church:

The church has an underground garage which is fine for cars and vans. An elevator brings people directly into the building where the festival will take place. Anyone coming with a larger van or bus will park at a remore location. Please pick up directions to this location at the church entrance and have someone follow with a car to bring the driver back.

Dress for the day and the concert:

—Shorts or slacks
—Tee shirt or polo shirt (a shirt representing your choir or church is great)
—Tennis shoes with socks (please emphasize "safe" shoes for climbing on choral risers)

Primary Schedule:

Please note that the schedule for primary choir singers starts at 12:15 pm. A room with supplies for various activites for primary choristers will be available in the morning; however, each choir must have adults supervising their primaries until the start of the first rehearsal at 12:30. If you want primary choristers to be included in the lunch count please register them as "Full Day Primaries" on the Registration Form Enrollment Summary.
